This is a table of words that are important to understand for us as Christians. I copied this table from The Life Application Study Bible Third Edition in Romans Chapter 2. This is also for my reference because I find needing to remind myself of terms like ‘propitiation’ and some of the other terms here as well. All of these are covered in The Book of Romans which one of my favorite pastors said “is the doctrinal book” .
Here are the terms (click on one to see the definition) :
Election
God’s choice of an individual or group for a specific purpose or destiny.
Justification
God’s act of declaring us free from guilt for our sins, making us right with him.
Propitiation
The removal of God’s punishment for sin through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Redemption
Jesus Christ’s act of paying the price of sin (death) so we can go free.
Sanctification
Becoming more and more like Jesus Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Glorification
The ultimate state of a believer after death where he or she becomes like Christ. (1 John 3:2)
